Evaluation
Causation is the key to long term success in mold control. Fungal growth is almost always due to unwanted moisture intrusion and our professionals are armed with the knowledge and tools to help diagnose the problem. Also, much of the time mold grows out of sight; behind walls, under floors, in attics, above ceilings, crawlspaces, etc. There is no substitute for thoroughness and experience in addition to the appropriate instruments to locate hidden mold.
Our Remediation Process
We will solve your mold problem! Mid-Atlantic Mold & Restoration's remediation process is safe and effective. We serve Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia, and Delaware with two offices to serve you.
The Remediation Plan
Mid-Atlantic Mold & Restoration details each step of the process in writing to our customers as part of the proposal to remediate the mold. This "protocol" as it is known in our industry includes the establishment of the containment area using negative air pressure to control the mold spores, which invariably become airborne. The protocol also enables you, as the customer, to make sure that the proposals from other mold removal companies include all the steps necessary to solve the problem in the long term.
Mold Remediation
The techniques used in killing and removing mold and mold spores are determined by to a great extent by the specific materials it has colonized. Removing the mold can include several options: wet washing, wire brushing, wet scrubbing, and HEPA vacuuming, just to name a few. In some cases, complete removal of the infected material is required, i.e. drywall or paper-coated insulation.
The detergents and biocides used by Mid-Atlantic Mold & Restoration are people and pet friendly. In fact, hospitals, restaurants, nursing homes, and daycare facilities use the same type of chemicals every day. We do not use chlorine bleach as it is a noxious chemical ineffective in all applications involving porous materials.
Post-Remediation Testing
Often, post-remediation testing is appropriate especially if the mold removal is required for a real estate transaction. These tests should be conducted by a certified IAQ professional. We do not believe that a remediation firm that did the work should conduct the test.

Let Our Experts Help
According to the EPA, a mold infestation of 10 square feet or less can normally be tackled by a non-professional. If you do try it, please follow the EPA Guidelines which include:- Proper respiration equipment
- Eye protection
- Body protection (Tyvek® suit)
- Gloves
But, another very important step is to take great care in not letting the mold spores become airborne and infect the rest of the house. We build containment areas with plastic sheathing and use negative air machines to accomplish this, but in a small area, just use your common sense and be careful.
